San Diego's economy is uniquely anchored by two massive, distinct, yet increasingly overlapping industries: the life sciences cluster centered around Torrey Pines and UTC, and the defence industrial base radiating outward from Point Loma and Coronado.

The Journal of San Diego was founded to cover the business, policy, and real estate realities of these sectors without the generic boosterism of local chambers of commerce or the shallow cheerleading of tech blogs.

Our Editorial Stance

• Data Over Narrative: We care about signed leases, SBIR awards, FDA clinical holds, and DCAA audits. We do not care about "disruption" or "synergy."
• Local Specificity: A macro-economic trend matters to us only in how it affects the I-5 corridor. We cover the specific zoning meetings in Sorrento Valley and the procurement shifts at NAVWAR.
• Utility First: Our articles are written for operators, founders, and investors who need actionable intelligence. That's why we build integrated calculators and tools alongside our reporting.
